Dear authors,
due to the very high number of potential papers we had some discussions with Elsevier about the special issue. In fact, we received almost 120 abstracts from authors who are willing to submit a paper. This can easily be 700-900 pages, which is a much more space than EcoMod can devote to a special issue. Furthermore, and maybe more importantly, to compile a special issue of 100 papers can really take years …

Therefore, the following solution was offered:
ALL papers from ECEM07 can be considered for publication in Ecological Modelling journal.

However, only part of them ( up to 30 papers, to be selected by guest editors and Ecological Modelling editors) will be printed together in a the single volume constituting the ECEM'07 PRINTED special issue. The other papers will be published in regular issues of the journal.

In both cases the papers will reach the ‘in press status’ depending on their own handling time only. The special issue will have a very strict schedule, so that actual printing will be as fast , or faster, than through normal flow.

Of course all paper will have to be within the scope of the journal and pass the standard peer review selection process.

Ecological Modelling journal is looking into the possibility to link all ECEM'07 related paper on a specifically devoted Elsevier webpage. For the time being, it is agreed that ISEM will host a webpage that lists all ECEM'07 related articles.

We believe this is acceptable, since it still give all the participants the possibility to submit a paper to EcoMod and at the same time reduce the processing time of printed special issue to an acceptable time (to compile a printed special issue of 80 papers might take years …).

The guest editors and the regular editors made a first selection of the potential papers. In agreement with that selection all authors who expressed their interest to partecipate to the special issue received an e-mail with detailed instruction for paper submission.

Text of the e-mail are below.
